News: George Orwell's 1984 Set To Open On Broadway This Summer






George Orwell's novel 1984 has become increasingly popular since the beginning of the Trump presidency.

Sales of the novel have spiked and now the London adaptation of 1984 will debut on Broadway this summer. It is being produced by Sonia Friedman (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and Scott Rudin (The Newsroom). It will be playing at the Hudson theater, which is owned by the UK company Ambassador Theater Group. It was produced by Headlong, Nottingham Playhouse, and the Almeida Theater. It was adapted by Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan and directed by Icke. The design team of Chloe Lamford (sets and costumes), Natasha Chivers (lights), Tom Gibbons (sound) and Tim Reid (video) will remain on board, but casting for the American production has yet to be set. It will premier on June 22nd, with preview shows announced at a later date.
