Rainn Wilson has been cast to appear on Star Trek: Discovery as the original series character Harry Mudd. Fans of the original series are well aware of the interstellar con man, who was played by Roger C. Carmel on two episodes. The character would later appear in the 1973-1975 animated series (voiced by Carmel), and by Ted Raimi in Odyssey 5. There is no word yet on how many episodes that Wilson will be appearing in. Wilson is probably best known for his role on The Office, but also appeared in Backstrom, Six Feet Under, Super, and The Rocker.

This is an excellent addition to an already great cast. He joins Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca, The Walking Dead actress Sonequa Martin-Green as the lead lieutenant commander, James Frain as Spock’s father Sarek, Anthony Rapp as a space fungus expert, Michelle Yeoh as the captain in charge of the Starship Shenzhou, Terry Serpico as Admiral Anderson, a high-ranking official of Starfleet; Maulik Pancholy as Dr. Nambue, the chief medical officer of the Starship Shenzhou; and Sam Vartholomeos as Ensign Connor, a junior officer in Starfleet Academy assigned to the Starship Shenzhou. Hopefully the show will stay on track and debut sometime in late summer or early fall.
