Rumor Mill: Reports Surfacing Regarding Which Version Of Batgirl Will Be Played And Possible Frontrunner

With news of Joss Whedon writing and directing a Batgirl film, the question has turned to which version of the character will be portrayed and who will play her.

According to a report from EW, this will be based upon the 'New 52' version that relaunched the character in 2011. In this version, the events from the 1988 graphic novel The Killing Joke still occur, but she is able to recover from a paralyzing spinal cord injury due to an experimental surgery. She is still haunted by the attack and EW says that it will follow writer Gail Simone's:

"harder-edged storyline rather than the more comical, playful 'Batgirl of Burnside' series that was rebooted in 2014, featuring the hero as a social-media obsessed student living in a hipster neighborhood of Gotham."

The other rumor involves the casting of Batgirl, with some sites reporting that Lindsey Morgan, Raven Reyes on The CW’s The 100, is either a frontrunner or possibly already cast. This is all rumor and speculation, which is based upon some of her social media posts. First, there were several tweets regarding a secret casting in New York and then an ecstatic selection announcement. Then, once news broke regarding Whedon's involvement, she re-tweeting stories regarding that, as well as rumors about her casting. Once again, this is all pure speculation and grasping at straws until something official comes out.
