The Hitman's Bodyguard claimed the number one spot in what was the slowest weekend of the Summer box office and the lowest weekend of 2001, coming out ahead of Annabelle: Creation and Leap!. The top twelve movies earned a combined $49 million, which ended up being the worst that the top twelve has earned since the September 2001 earning of $43.5 million. The Hitman's Bodyguard finished with an estimated $10, winning its second weekend in a row. Those numbers may actually drop below double digits when the final tallies come in, which last happened in September 2015 with War Room earning $9.4 million.
Annabelle: Creation continued its strong box office performance finishing in second with an estimated $7.35 million, bringing its domestic earnings to nearly $78 million so far in three weeks. Leap! finished in third place with an estimated $5 million, a somewhat disappointing start in its opening weekend. Wind River earned an estimated $4.4 million for fourth place, which has slowly expanded into more theaters. Logan Lucky finished in fifth place with an estimated $4.4 million, earning near $15 million in its first 10 days. Birth of the Dragon finished in eighth with an estimated $2.5 million. The other new release fell outside of the top ten, with All Saints earning an estimated $1.6 million.
