The D.C. Universe. It seems every couple days there is some major news regarding casting or other rumors related to their film catalog. Now, big news is breaking regarding an upcoming Joker film by Hangover director Todd Philips. A solo film has long been rumored, but now it seems that the project is picking up steam with casting currently underway.
Indiewire and other sources are reporting that Joaquin Phoenix is on board to star as the Joker in the upcoming solo movie. Variety is also reporting the same news. Phoenix will follow in the large footsteps left by Jack Nicholson, Cesar Romero, Heath Ledger, and most recently by Jared Leto.
Phoenix has consistently stayed away from doing major comic book or franchise films but seems to have changed his mind regarding mainstream fare like this. This Joker project will take place outside the current DCEU and will serve as a prequel of sorts in which our favorite evil clown is rising through the criminal underworld.
Reportedly, some negotiations are still taking place, but the actor has all but signed on the dotted line.
