News: Highway to the Danger Zone: Top Gun 2 Films This Summer

We feel the need.....the need for speed.

The Top Gun sequel that's been in development hell for years is finally getting some positive momentum. Added to the slate quite some time back, director Joseph Kosinski's Top Gun: Maverick looks to be hitting production sometime this summer. The new story will center on Tom Cruise's character Maverick as he trains a new crew of pilots which is rumored to include Goose's son.

Omega Underground is reporting that the film is set to shoot from July until potentially December for principle photography. Initially Cruise's schedule was being coordinated around Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, but he eventually passed on the role, which opened up the possibilities for this '80s  legacy sequel. Kosinski previously directed Cruise in Oblivion.

No date is set in stone, but if all goes as planned, it looks like the second Top Gun will be hitting theaters some time in 2019.
