News: Plot Synopsis & Footage For The Predator Revealed At CinemaCon

20th Century Fox debuted the first footage for Shane Black’s The Predator at CinemaCon, along with the plot synopsis. These are some of the responses regarding the footage so far.

@KingPatel7 tweeted from CinemaCon, “Shane Black’s THE PREDATOR looks great! Lots of bloody action, the hunters are evolving.”

@EricVespe tweeted, “Saw some footage from The Predator. Very much setting up the new characters, but there was some Predator action. Saw a glimpse of a big glaive-looking weapon and a Predator holding up a dude. Shane Black and Fred Dekker’s character work was on full display already. There was a cool shot of the Predator laser dots on Jacob Tremblay. Olivia Munn sees this, pushes him behind her and dots move to her.”

@Joblocom delves deeper tweeting, “Just saw The Predator teaser. Lots of set-up and mystery surrounding a mission that Boyd Holbrook’s character was on where he encountered an “alien”. We see a ship crash land on Earth and various shots of the Predator in various places. We see Holbrook picking up a Predator mask, Jacob Tremblay messing around with a Predator gauntlet and Olivia Munn talking about how The Predator is evolving from planet to planet. Lots of action, blood, explosions and guns.”

The Wrap provided these details for the footage, “In a new trailer that screened at Fox’s CinemaCon presentation, we see Rory (Jacob Tremblay), the son of a special forces soldier, open a box and discover a piece of technology belonging to the Predators. Thrilled by how cool it is, he plays with it like a toy spaceship, not knowing that he’s remotely piloting an actual ship full of Predators to a crash landing on Earth.”

“We then see the boy’s father, Quinn McKenna, being interrogated after returning to his base as the only survivor of a team of Marines called in to investigate the crash landing. In between seeing the film’s cast do battle with the new Predators — who have upgraded with DNA of other species they conquered — Quinn responds to question with terse answers and sarcasm, leading some to wonder if Quinn is still on the side of the humans.”

They also released the official synopsis: "From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.”

"The Predator sets its sights on Sept. 14, 2018 instead of August 3rd. Obviously hoping to scare up some of that mad money Stephen King's IT made last year in what is typically a box office dead zone."

The September 14th release date will pit it up against Alpha, The Darkest Minds, and Fighting With My Family. This was the third time that the film's release date has been changed. Originally scheduled to be released on March 2nd, it was then shifted to February 9th and then August 3rd. It was earlier reported that reshoots were scheduled in Vancouver from March 12th to March 29th.

It is being helmed by Shane Black from a script that was co-written by Black and Fred Dekker. The cast includes Logan‘s Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Moonlight‘s Trevante Rhodes, Yvonne Strahovski, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan Michael-Key, Alfie Allen, Thomas Jane, Jake Busey, Edward James Olmos, among others. Black has described most of the group as “stone cold killers with some serious acting chops… but which of them will be chopped…,” signifying that most of them will meet an untimely and gory ending.
