Who ever would have expected a wonderful, family oriented sequel to Mary Poppins decades later? Well, Mary Poppins Returns proved that it could be done. Starring Emily Blunt in the role of the famed character, the sequel went on to be a critical and box office success that brought back a classic feel that has been missing from theaters for years. Many questioned if it could actually be great! Their fears were subsided as the musical ended up being a great addition to the character's legacy and a minor hit for Disney's film division.
Now, it's been announced that Rob Marshall is currently in the early stages of developing a script for Mary Poppins 3. While Disney hasn't made any formal announcements yet, Marshall spoke at a BAFTA tea party event and said his team is putting something together that will further expand on the books by P.L. Travers. There are 8 novels, but the Mary Poppins Returns was an amalgamation from ideas in all the those stories.
