New to Blu Picks: March 19th, 2019


Here's a list of Dawn's top picks for films with new Blu-ray releases this week. 


Detour (1945)
The Criterion Collection is releasing Edgar G. Ulmer’s Film Noir classic for the first time on Blu-ray. Special features include a new 4K restoration, a documentary about the filmmaker featuring interviews with Roger Corman, Joe Dante, and Wim Wenders, and more.

Wanda (1970)
The Criterion Collection is releasing Barbara Loden’s intimate vérité style film about a woman living on the fringe of society. Special features include a new 2K digital restoration by the UCLA Film & Television Archive, an hour long documentary on the film featuring an interview with the director, audio recording of Loden speaking at the American Film Institute, and more.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
Sony Pictures is releasing 2018’s Oscar Winner for Best Animated Feature Film for the first time on 4K Blu-ray/DVD/Digital. Amazon has an exclusive release with a fancy slipcover and you can get a steel book version from Best Buy.

The Deadly Mantis (1957)
Shout Factory is releasing this monster movie classic for the first time on Blu-ray. Special features include a new 2K scan of the original film elements, new audio commentary with film historians Tom Weaver and David Schecter, the MST3K episode featuring the film, and more.

Strip Nude for Your Killer (1975)
Arrow Video is releasing this Euro cult classic on Special Edition Blu-ray. Extras include a new 2K restoration from the original negative, Original lossless mono Italian and English soundtracks, new audio commentary, several interviews, and more.

The Witches (The Devil’s Own, 1966)
Shout Factory is releasing this Hammer Films classic on Blu-ray for the first time. Special Features include new audio commentary with Ted Newsom, Hammer Glamour – a featurette on the women of Hammer, and more.

Cleopatra Jones (1973)
Warner Bros. is releasing this Blaxploitation classic for the first time on Blu-ray.

The Whole Town’s Talking (1935)
Twilight Time is releasing this John Ford classic film for the first time on Blu-ray.

Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
Disney is releasing the sequel story of the world’s favorite singing nanny on 4K/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital release. Best Buy also has an exclusive steelbook available.
