News: We're Getting a Time Bandits Series and Taika Waititi is Set to Direct

Apple confirmed that they have secured Thor Ragnarok director Taika Waititi to helm their Time Bandits series, an adaptation of Terry Gilliam's 1981 entry from his "Trilogy of Imagination." The series, a co-production between Paramount Television, Anonymous Content, and Media Rights Capital, will have its pilot episode written and directed by the What We Do in the Shadow co-creator, who will also serve as executive producer alongside Gilliam himself.

This is in addition to his What We Do in the Shadows series currently in the works over at FX, which is set to premiere on March 27. Given the darker nature of the original film, it's possible that we might be in for a more lighthearted affair that would be more fitting for modern audiences or, alternatively, it could be a completely new direction for Waititi- who made Thor into a colorful comedy in comparison with his last two solo outings. We'll have to wait to see more on just what he'll be able to do with the cult classic that hasn't already been done.
