Bat News: Colin Farrell and Andy Serkis Join The Batman As Penguin and Alfred

Once trapped in development hell, it seems as though Matt Reeves's The Batman is finally inching closer and closer to production. Every other week, we get a new round of inspired casting for The Batman that is sure to surprise and paint a clearer picture of what this film will be. With that in mind, we learned that Colin Farrell and Andy Serkis are joining the film.

Colin Farrell is set to play The Penguin, joining the previously cast Paul Dano as The Riddler and Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman as the trio causing Batman grief in this installment. This would be Farrell's second comic book franchise appearance following his role as Bullseye opposite the previous Batman, Ben Affleck, in 2003's Daredevil.

Joining him is Andy Serkis as the loyal Alfred Pennyworth. It wouldn't be a Batman movie without Alfred being there. Serkis has worked with Reeves before on the most recent Planet of the Apes films and was recently seen in Star Wars, Black Panther, and Long Shot and will be directing the upcoming Venom 2. It will be weird to see him not be a bad guy.

While we have no official word yet on when the filming will begin, it has been reported that filming is scheduled to begin late this year or early next year for a June 25th, 2021 release date. We will keep you updated, old chum.
