Breaking Bat News: Andy Serkis Confirmed As Alfred For The Batman

Once trapped in development hell, it seems as though Matt Reeves's The Batman is finally inching closer and closer to production. Every other week, we get a new round of inspired casting for The Batman that is sure to surprise and paint a clearer picture of what this film will be. With that in mind, we learned  Andy Serkis is confirmed to be a part of the film via director Matt Reeves on Twitter.

Last week, rumors emerged that Serkis has been cast as the loyal Alfred Pennyworth. Now it is confirmed he is a part of the film. It wouldn't be a Batman movie without Alfred being there. Serkis has worked with Reeves before on the most recent Planet of the Apes films as Caesar. He was also recently seen in the first two installments of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Black Panther, Long Shot, and will be directing the upcoming Venom 2. It will be weird to see him not be a bad guy.

While we have no official word yet on when the filming will begin or whether or not Colin Farrell has been confirmed yet for his part as the Penguin. Sources say that filming is scheduled to begin late this year or early next year for a June 25th, 2021 release date. We will keep you updated, old chum.
