Pain and Goya: Almodóvar Ties Up Oscar Noms, Ties Down Awards From Spanish Film Acadamy


One of Spain’s most acclaimed directors, Pedro Almodóvar, had his newest film, Pain and Glory win big at the Goyas, the Spanish film industry’s most prestigious awards night.

Almodóvar’s autobiographical film not only picked up awards for Best Film, Best Director, and best actor (for Antonio Banderas, playing a semi-fictional version of the director), but it additionally nabbed awards for Best Original Screenplay, an award for editing, original music, and a Best SupportingActress prize for Julieta Serrano.

Pain and Glory is also lauded stateside, and is up for two Oscars (Best International Feature Film, and a Best Actor nod for Banderas). The 92nd Academy Awards will be broadcast Feb 9th, on ABC.
