For The Birds: Harley Quinn Nabs Low Gross on Thursday Night Screenings

We'll officially know by Sunday whether or not Birds of Prey will be a success for Warner Bros. as they continue to extend their universe in a multitude of ways. However, Thursday night numbers look to be a bit of low dough for the comic book anti-hero. The Birds along with Harley Quinn only nabbed $4 million in their opening frame which is quite a bit shy of Shazam's nearly $6 million and way short of Suicide Squad's $20 million Thursday night screenings. While it was probably never expected to reach those heights, this could prove to be another blunder for the DCEU. Considering these films have been a hit or miss, it could still pull off some type of miracle. But usually, these Thursday night shows seem to set a film up for success or can be a sign of financial disaster. At a budget of $95 million, it shouldn't be too harder for the WB to recoup their money, but will Harley have the legs to be a true hit or a short sighted flop for the studio?

The movie has had some mixed reviews including ours that calls it a mediocre release that delivers on some humor and action, but ultimately fails to deliver the goods. Others seem to have enjoyed it more as it's Rotten Tomatoes score is still hovering in the positive spectrum. We're not going to pre-judge, so we'll wait til the final numbers hit on Sunday, but maybe interest wasn't as high for Harley Quinn as we all thought. After all, we never wish anything bad for a studio or their profits....
