Galactic News: Taika Waititi to Direct A New Star Wars Film

Well, it's that time again where we finally have a piece of news that isn't about something getting delayed by Covid-19. Yep, it's news about a project being developed in Hollywood? Remember when those stories happened!?! This May the Fourth may be the gift that keeps on giving as we have some news on what's next for the Star Wars franchise after the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga.

Taika Waititi is officially set to direct and co-write a film set in the Star Wars universe. Joining him in the writer's room will be Krysty Wilson-Cairns, writer of 1917 and Edgar Wright's upcoming Last Night in Soho. This news is not a major shock given that there have been rumors out in the ether about this project since January given the reception to Waititi's work on The Mandalorian.

It is unclear if this film will be one of the films that Disney has dated for either December 2022, December 2024, or December 2026, but given that he has a film in post-production and Thor: Love and Thunder coming whenever this quarantine is over, we imagine that it'll be somewhere in the future. This is the first officially announced Star Wars film since the Game of Thrones creators walked away from their deal to make Star Wars movies back in October. Hopefully, this will go better than the way that one went.
