Upgraded: Leigh Whannell's Upgrade to Get TV Series Sequel

It's that time again where we finally have a piece of news that isn't about something getting delayed by Covid-19. While everything is shut down, folks are developing whatever they can. Yep, those stories still happen and this one is a doozy! There is an Upgrade sequel happening!

Courtesy of Deadline, we have learned that Blumhouse and Universal Cable Productions is in active development on a sequel series to the 2018 film. The film's director, Leigh Whannell, is involved with this project as co-creator and a producer on the series. The show seems to be farther along in the process than we imagined with a writer's room assembled to make the show happen sooner rather than later. There is no word yet on whether this show will be on television or on Universal's upcoming streaming service, Peacock.

The series will be set a few years after the events of the film. It will broaden the universe of the film with an upgraded version of the artificial intelligence STEM and a new host, set in a world where STEM is now being used to curb criminal activity. We here at The Movie Sleuth are big fans of the original film and can't wait to see what they do with this series!
