Hot on the hooves of announcing an upcoming four-issue Stranger Things/Dungeons & Dragons mashup-series, Dark Horse Comics is set to unleash yet another Stranger 4-fer, Stranger Things: Science Camp. This time focusing on tech-nerd character Dustin Henderson and his pre-Season 3 adventures (with Suzie) at summer camp, and away from his friends (and enemies) back in Hawkins, Indiana.

Scripted by Jody Houser, who has written numerous Stranger Things comics (including the aforementioned D&D miniseries), issue #1 finds Dustin arriving at  Camp Know Where, a summer camp for “gifted” kids/young science geeks. He’s struggling to adjust to these unfamiliar surroundings while also having to deal with “nerdy bullies” (who knew?).

Since this IS Stranger Things after all, the going gets weird right away when, per Dark Horse’s plot synopsis:

“A mysterious figure with sinister intent arrives to disrupt the serene woodland scene. The solution won’t take rocket science, but Dustin will have to get on the same wavelength as the other campers before tensions reach a boiling point.”

ZOINKS!
Though we don’t yet know how Dustin will deal with this downright Scooby-Doo-esque baddie (is that you, Old Man Jenkins?), according to Stranger Things’ third season, Camp Know Where is where he built such devices as The Slammer, The Forever Clock, and his powerful Ham radio, Cerebro, so it’s likely that one (or all) of these inventions may come into play here.

This seems like a good smaller-scale adventure to placate fans that are eagerly waiting for the pandemic-delayed Stranger Things Season 4 to drop on Netflix, while handily filling in some background detail to the larger canon.

Stranger Things: Science Camp, written by Jody Houser, penciled by Edgar Salazar, inked by Keith Champagne and colored by Marissa Louise will be released by Dark Horse on Sept 30.
