When Universal's Dark Universe failed at lift-off, it seemed that things were permanently ill fated. But after the huge success of The Invisible Man, projects seem to be heating up again. And with theaters finally planning on re-opening in the very near future, movies that had been shelved seem to be gaining steam. Well, the latest upcoming remake or reinvention that's being respawned is the classic tale of The Bride of Frankenstein. Writer David Koepp has confirmed that the project is still in active development and that they plan on moving forward with a retelling of the famed love story between two humans brought back from the dead by a scientist.
Koepp has been attached to the project since 2015 and says he has two different ways he's planning on attacking the writing process for the movie. When speaking with Collider, Koepp had this to say:
“That was one thing I did during quarantine – I brought back Bride of Frankenstein into a place where I kind of always wanted it to be.Universal was very gracious to let me try again. Because they had geared up and shut down famously in the Dark Universe fiasco. Well, not fiasco, but disappointment. So I have a version now and they have a version that we all really like. I think they’re talking to directors now”
He also says they plan on going a similar route as Blumhouse's Invisible Man with a more scaled back production and style.
“It’s not the great big, $150 million extravaganza with giant movie stars. It’s not as scaled down as Invisible Man but much more reasonable, doable thing, with, I think, a really cool idea and it’s all present day.”
Amy Pascal was initially set to produce but has since moved on to other things. They're currently seeking someone to helm the movie.
