Netflix is bringing a wave of documentaries to their streaming platform. Among several shorts to be added over the next few months includes John Was Trying To Contact Aliens. The 16 minute short tells the story of a Michigan resident who spent his life trying to contact aliens.
John Sheppard lived with
his grandparents in northern Michigan when he started building electronic equipment
to contact aliens. The large stereo equipment he used to send music out into
space quickly consumed his grandparents house as he got more and more sophisticated
with the equipment he built himself.
This short was released in
the Sundance Institute, and was included in their 2020 selection for short
nonfiction. This is director Matthew Killip’s second submission to the
festival, and received his first award for Short Non Fiction. John Was Trying
To Contact Aliens will be available to stream on Netflix August 20th.
