Netflix News: Bird Box Sequel in Development

Netflix had a huge hit on their hands last year with the apocalyptic vision of Bird Box starring Sandra Bullock. Now, the streaming heavyweight looks to continue that world with a sequel that will serve as a direct follow up to the story by writer Josh Malerman. When speaking with Inverse, he said the next chapter in the Bird Box timeline called Malorie will pick up at the school for the blind, where the first movie concluded. He's currently working on the follow up novel and had this to say about the project:

"‘Malorie’ opens at the school for the blind, which is where the movie ends. Then it jumps a few years later, and it really takes off 10 years after that. I can’t say much, but I can say that it is in development… Sometimes it’s weird, all this secrecy, but I’m game.”

While the movie was a success for the outlet, there were plenty of naysayers as well. However, with over 45 million accounts viewing the movie, it was never a question that Netflix would try to get a sequel to screen as quickly as possible. With a 57 percent positive score on the platform, it definitely had its share of bad reviews or reactions, yet you can never keep a good sequel down. It'll be interesting to see where they go ten years after the events of the original.
