Galactic News: Candyman and Captain Marvel 2's Nia Dacosta Considered For Star Wars

The last few weeks have been loaded with plenty of amazing news stories and a ton of genre based articles, but this one is extremely interesting. It seems that Kathleen Kennedy has had her eyes on Nia Dacosta, the director of the latest  Candyman movie and the sequel to Captain Marvel. While discussing upcoming projects, Kennedy told The Wrap that Dacosta has been in consideration for taking on a Star Wars project for Disney. She didn't say if she was being eyed for television or movies but did say that she was looking at the director prior to her signing on for Captain Marvel 2:

"I was actually sad because I love Nia Dacosta, who was just announced to do Captain Marvel 2. She's another director I've been watching and she's enormously talented."

Dacosta previously wrote and directed the indie film Little Woods before taking up the newest Candyman feature. The horror film is said to be a direct continuation of the previous few movies in the series. Dacosta worked closely with Jordan Peele to develop the project. While nothing is official, it seems like Kathleen Kennedy is definitely interested in eventually working with her on a project. Lately, Star Wars has definitely leaned more towards female creatives taking a more lead role in their films and TV. We look forward to seeing if something happens with this.
