News: Soundtracks on Atmos - The Social Network Score Remastered in Dolby Atmos!

It has been ten years since Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross joined forces to create the Academy Award winning original score for David Fincher’s still timely masterpiece The Social Network.  To commemorate the score’s anniversary, a sonic game changer as far as film music was concerned as well as the most confident soundtrack debut since Danny Elfman scored Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, Trent and Atticus cooked up something special that could well change the soundscape of listening to soundtrack albums at home: Dolby Atmos.

Originally released in 2.0 stereophonic sound outside of the film’s Dolby 7.1 Surround sound mix and subsequent 5.1 DTS-HD sound mix, The Social Network radically shifted the direction of Reznor and Ross’ respective musical careers.  So towering in technical brilliance was their score they went on to create many more legendary soundtracks before breaking the mold once again with their Emmy winning score for HBO’s Watchmen

Debuting on Amazon Music HD with teasing hints of an impending 4K UHD disc release, The Social Network has been remastered in Dolby Atmos surround sound for the most immersive sonic listening experience possible.  While there have been concert films released on blu-ray and UHD in Dolby Atmos, this is among the first times a soundtrack album has received the Atmos treatment.  To say Trent and Atticus are ahead of the curve is putting it mildly.  Stay tuned for further details!

From Trent:
When we finished the score, we were in a phase where we intrigued by the possibilities of mixing in surround. At the time, 5.1 was the format of choice. Our intention was to spend three days after finishing the stereo mix and adapt it to 5.1… Thirty days later we finished! We found the material was very suited to the space and we went a little crazy.
Jump to the present where ATMOS has become a viable format and we thought it would be cool to “adapt” the approach of the original 5.1 mix into the expansive canvas ATMOS provides. Our results are live on Amazon Music right now – check it out.
