While nothing is a foregone conclusion at this point in the game, Jon Favreau has confirmed that season 3 of The Mandalorian is moving forward at a frenetic pace. Although season 2 doesn't begin airing until the end of October, the head of the show says that he's currently working up the scripts for the third year of the super successful Disney+ series. And he hopes to begin shooting the next set of episodes by the end of December. Unlike so many other series, the COVID-19 pandemic may not effect them since they shoot with so many cast members in masks and with a lot of digitally rendered characters and backdrops. The pandemic hasn't had a terrible stranglehold on their momentum. When speaking with Variety, the actor/director commented on a rumored Mandalorian movie and says it's not a priority for him right now:

“But we’re definitely open to it. And excited to see where the story leads us and have that flexibility — because there’s no rulebook now. Technology is always offering new opportunities to tell stories in a fresh way. It’s a very exciting time to be doing this and I feel very grateful that we’re able to be able to work remotely, because of the nature of the technology that we’re dealing with. So we’re continuing to try to move forward and keep the ball rolling, even though it’s been a challenging time for everyone.”

When commenting on season 3, he said this:

“We’re operating under the assumption that we’ll be able to go forward. We’re in very small situations and oftentimes we have a lot of characters in masks. And we also have a lot of digital work that augments things. So we’re a show that’s probably well-equipped to be flexible based on the protocols that are emerging surrounding work restarting.”
