Get Freaked: Vince Vaughn Body Swap Horror, Freaky Takes #1 Spot

Although the Fall is typically a slower time at the box office, the coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc on movie theaters across the U.S.. With most theater chains still struggling to get new content and many major franchise cinemas keeping their screenings to a minimum, this weekend did not bode well for movies in general. Sadly, it continues to look dim for a full reopening as virus numbers are once again peaking. This weekend saw a new horror movie take the top spot while re-releases and older movies keep things afloat for the time being.

The new body switch flick Freaky took the prize with a middling $3.7 million at the box office. The movie seems to be getting mixed reviews with some critics giving it rave reviews and others not so much. This is the first time a Vince Vaughn movie has taken the #1 slot in years. Against a bevvy of mediocre other releases, it's not saying much. The Kevin Costner and Diane Lane dramatic vehicle Let Him Go came in second with a meager $1.8 million. The War With Grandpa hung on to the third spot with $1.3 million. And fourth place went to the horror film Come Play. Honest Thief came in fifth while Christopher Nolan's Tenet hung on slightly to a number six position with another $735k.

Unfortunately none of these numbers really add up to much. Luckily for Freaky, it's going to hit its budget after one week in release. The film only cost $6 million to make.
