Attention Alita Army: Robert Rodriguez Says Alita: Battle Angel Sequel A Possibility For Disney Plus

It's that time again where we finally have a piece of news that isn't about something getting delayed by the Covid-19 crisis. While everything else is slowly starting to reopen, studios are developing and looking into whatever they can make when things get back to normal again. Yep, these stories will keep happening as the world tries to return to normal. Right now, we are focused on a potential Alita: Battle Angel sequel. 

Based on the manga series, the film was a visual spectacle directed by Robert Rodriguez. Starring an amazing cast that featured Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Mahershala Ali, Jennifer Connelly and Keean Johnson, the movie brought the book to the screen with James Cameron aboard as a producer. Although the movie wasn't a huge financial success, it wasn't quite a disaster either.

Long time followers of the character were left hopeful that there might still be a chance that they'd give it a sequel. Hope hasn't totally died as the Alita Army has helped several times to get a major social media push behind the film's home video and theatrical re-releases including one on Halloween. Ever since then, we haven't heard much on that front. Until now. 

In an interview with Forbes, Robert Rodriguez speculated about the future of Alita. “I think anything is possible, Disney bought Fox, and they have Disney+, so that is worth the conversation. I know other people would love to see another, and I would love to do another one. As far as where it would go or how it would be made, I think streaming has opened up many opportunities such as sequels. It’s already a pre-sold concept, it’s already got a built-in audience that wants to see it, and then it’s delivered to them in a way that’s the easiest for them to consume. So, it’s not a bad idea.”

Given Rodriguez has a relationship with Disney after directing an episode of The Mandalorian and his involvement with The Book of Boba Fett, there is a real possibility that any Alita sequel could end up on Disney Plus. Given that Alita has a cult following and a fairly large home video success, I suspect we will see Alita again sometime soon.
