Buck Rogers Returns: New TV Show In Development from Brian K. Vaughn

Word broke a couple months ago that a new Buck Rogers movie was in the early stages of development and would hit cinemas some time in the next few years. Now it's been announced that the character is also being reintroduced to audiences in a new television show that will be written by Y: The Last Man writer Brian K. Vaughn. These new iterations of the character will be the first live action version since the 1979 series, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century that starred Gil Gerard in the title role. While there have been rumblings over the past couple decades, nothing ever came to fruition. Frank Miller and Paul W.S. Anderson have both been attached but nothing ever came of their involvement. Legendary Pictures has now taken over the franchise and will be working on a film and television series.

Buck Rogers tells the tale of a man that is trapped in a coal mine and is stuck in suspended animation for 500 years. When he wakes up, he has adventures in an unfamiliar, futuristic world. He's been the center of comics, books, film and most notably the original television show.

When they announced the film back in the fall, they said there would be other projects that would transcend multiple forms of media. This is apparently what they had planned. Vaughn is currently penning the series for Legendary. They've also revealed that they plan an animated series as well.
