The upcoming Resident Evil film series reboot has officially wrapped filming under the direction of Johannes Roberts. Roberts previously directed the 47 Meters Down films and The Strangers:Prey at Night. His latest entry will be a full relaunch of Resident Evil and will step away from the long running Paul W.S. Anderson series. It's said to actually be based in the world of the videogames whereas the Anderson movies were a departure that fans definitely took issue with. Roberts says that he wanted to:

"go back to the original first two games and recreate the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences."

The director took to social media yesterday to announce that his film has wrapped production and will now head into the next phase. It's still planned as a 2021 release as long as theaters can finally begin opening again if the COVID-19 pandemic begins to wind down.
