Stream On: Locke and Key Renewed For Third Season at Netflix

It's that time again where we finally have a piece of news that isn't about something getting delayed by the Covid-19 crisis. While everything else is slowly starting to reopen, studios are developing and looking into whatever they can make when things get back to normal again. Yep, these stories will keep happening as the world tries to return to normal. That's right, Locke and Key will be sticking around at Netflix for the time being.

Ahead of it's second season premiere in 2021, Netflix has announced today that the series will be renewed for a third season. Production is currently wrapping on Season 2 this week in Toronto. Production on Season 3 set to kick off in early 2021. Season 2 of the show was announced way back in March.

In addition to the early renewal, executive producer and co-showrunner for the series, Meredith Averill, has signed an overall development deal with Netflix for TV and other projects. Clearly, a deal like this and an early renewal means good things are coming for fans of the series.

Based on the comic book of the same name by Joe Hill and Gabrielle Rodriguez, Locke and Key is the story of the Locke family. After their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, three siblings and their mother move into their ancestral home. They soon discover that the house is full of magical keys that may be connected to their father's death. As the Locke children explore the different keys and their unique powers, a mysterious demon awakens and it wants those keys for itself.

For a show that had a long and troubled development like Locke and Key had, it's amazing that it ended up on TV in the first place. It started as a show for Fox, a movie for Universal, a show for Hulu, and then finally came to life on Netflix. Hopefully, there are no more production twist and turns in the making of this show.
