Ahead of its premiere on HBO Max, the upcoming animated series called Gremlins: The Secrets of the Mogwai is being greenlit for a second season. Deadline has reported that the show is already being handed more episodes ahead of its initial release. Just a day ago it was confirmed that Ming-Na Wen, BD Wong, and Matthew Rhys have all joined the voice cast of the prequel series.
This new animated run will take place in the 1920s and will tell of a ten year old Sam Wing (Mr. Wing in the original movie) as he learns to raise a baby Mogwai. The show will be an adventure based series that will see him traverse the countryside battling creatures from Chinese lore. His adventures see him paired with a young Gizmo as they confront an evil industrialist and his band of vicious Gremlins.
For years fans have hoped for another sequel in the Gremlins film franchise. A new commercial that was released this week has raised hope of seeing another film, but it may all rest on how well this animated series does. If interest is there, another live action film might be in the cards. No matter what it looks like we're getting two season of Secrets of the Mogwai no matter what. We'll take what we can get.
