Another Time To Kill: Matthew McConaughey Set To Play Jake Brigance Again In HBO Limited Series Sequel

Another day, another news story. This one is pretty alright, alright, alright. That's right, it's time for some Matthew McConaughey news.

Twenty-five years after his breakout role as Jake Brigance in the late Joel Schumacher film, A Time to Kill, Matthew McConaughey will return to the role. However, this will not be a big screen return. Instead, it's a limited series adaptation of the book's sequel, A Time For Mercy.

In A Time for Mercy, Brigance finds himself caught up in a case representing a timid 16-year-old boy accused of murdering a local deputy. Many want a swift trial and the death penalty, but Brigance soon discovers that there is more to the story than meets the eye and is determined to fight for this kid. This story is actually the third book to feature the Brigance character but McConaughey and the producers of this weren't interested in the second book.

The series will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who green lit and produced the original film. The series will run for eight to ten episodes as the creatives behind it wanted the story to unfold and felt that a two hour runtime wasn't enough to let the story breathe. HBO is still looking for writers and directors so this one might be a little ways to go from being filmed. This would be not only McConaughey's return to this character but a return to TV after his acclaimed role in True Detective.
