Although it's been more than two decades since Face/Off was a theatrical action hit for director John Woo and his stars Nicolas Cage and John Travolta, a new film is currently in the works that will serve as a direct sequel to the movie. Initially it was reported that it would be a reboot/remake, but director Adam Wingard says the movie will indeed be a sequel that will continue the story of Castor Troy and Sean Archer. He recently revealed that both actors are awaiting a final script before officially signing on for the movie but they're definitely in the consideration phase of boarding the project.

When talking to Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Wingard had this to say:

“Some people just assume when I say that that it just means it takes place in the world of Face/Off. To me, Face/Off isn’t about a procedure or anything like that. It’s not about the world that the characters exist in. It’s about Sean Archer and it’s about Castor Troy. That’s what this movie is about. It’s the continuation of that story. It’s hard to talk about other than that but this is, to me, the definitive continuation of that saga.”

Wingard also says that he's working with his constant collaborator Simon Barrett and that the current script is currently in the early phases. They worked together on The Guest, Blair Witch and You're Next previously and will continue with their team-up on the upcoming Face/Off sequel.

With both Cage and Travolta doing mostly straight to video movies right now, each could see another potential career resurgence when this movie finally happens.
