Several weeks ago it was announced that Paramount was developing a new adaptation of The Man Who Fell To Earth for Showtime. Based on the Walter Tevis novel of the same time it was previously a film starring David Bowie in the lead role. Now dramatic actor Chiwetel Ejiofor will take up the main character in the series for the cable outlet. The story focuses on an alien that lands on Earth and is forced to confront his own being and humanity's future. It has not been adapted closely to the source material since the masterful 1976 film directed by Nicolas Roeg. It was Bowie's first ever starring role in a live action film.

Today it's been announced that Oscar nominee Naomi Harris (Moonlight, Skyfall) and Jimmi Simpson would be joining the series as co-stars. Harris recently completed work on the upcoming movie Swan Song and will reprise her role as Moneypenny in the latest Bond film which will see Daniel Craig retire the role. Simpson recently co-starred in Silk Road and has two other films in post-production.

The series is currently in pre-production under CBS Television Studios in partnership with Tandem productions. We'll update as we hear more!
