The Saw Is Family: New Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a Direct Sequel to the 1974 Classic

One thing we can all admit is that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre series has been put through the ringer. From sequels that didn't do anything for the franchise to prequels that didn't really add up to remakes that tried to revitalize the brand, the horror tale has seen a terrible continuity. Now, director Fede Alvarez hopes to change all that with his upcoming sequel to the original film. His new addition to the saga will feature the original vision of the serial killer, Leatherface. It will also attempt to pick up from where the original left off. We hope that he succeeds at creating something that at least echoes some of the terrifying scenery from the first film.

When discussing the project, Alvarez revealed that it will be an older version of Leatherface and will in fact feature practical visual effects. Here's what he had to say when speaking with Bloody Disgusting:

"It is a direct sequel. And it is the same character. It is old man Leatherface".

He continued......

Everything is classic, old school gags. A lot of the approach that we had with Evil Dead, never VFX, to do everything on camera. It's a very old school approach to filming. Vintage lenses. It's very similar to the original film".

Sounds good to us!!
