As Alien 3 continues to be one of the most divisive films in the chronology, it looks like the original screenplay for the film will be turned into a novel. Award winning author Pat Cadigan (Queen of Cyberpunk) will be adapting William Gibson's unmade screenplay into a new novel which will see new fates for Ripley, Newt, Bishop and Corporal Hicks. Many were disappointed in the way that the third Alien film dispatched those integral characters in the events between movies. In this alternate version, the crew will arrive at the military installation Anchorpoint and a new variant of the Xenomorph appears, threatening the lives of everyone aboard.
Over time, David Fincher's Alien 3 seems to get more of a cult following but wasn't a hit with fans or critics at the time of release. It was critically ravaged and failed to drum up success at the box office. This new novelization is expected to release on August 31st, 2021.
The Gibson screenplay was also adapted into a five part comic book series from Dark Horse comics back in 2018 and was also made into an audio drama by Audible.
