It's been a little while since Rob Zombie, the heavy-metal rocker turned director known for his hard-R-rated horror films like The Devils Rejects and House of 1000 Corpses made a new film. That changes today as he officially announced that he will next direct a take on The Munsters, the classic sixties sitcom about a family of monsters.

Zombie is both writing and directing the film. The Munsters will be a departure for the writer/director. As movie and music fans know, Zombie is known for his often bloody and hardcore horror films that push things to the limit. And while this come as a surprise, he’s actually a hardcore fan of the series, having referenced it in his films and music. It's clear that this is a passion project for Zombie.

The Munsters” is set up at Universal’s 1440 Productions, which is a division of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. With this project being set up there, one might expect that this film may not be a theatrical release or may end up on Universal's streaming service, Peacock. No release details were immediately available as the film is inching through the pre-production process. We will keep you updated.
