A New Box Office Champ: Space Jam 2 Slam Dunks Black Widow This Weekend

This weekend the box office analysts once again proved to be wrong. Their initial estimates saw Black Widow defeating Space Jam: A New Legacy at the cinema. Well, they look to be totally off in that estimation. The new WB movie which introduces LeBron James into the Space Jam legacy caused quite the upset. The sequel ended up making over $31.7 million at the domestic box office, destroying what was thought to be a guaranteed second weekend win for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Still though, the Scarlett Johansson led comic book movie was not suffering much. It went on to gross another $26 million in domestic sales, another worthwhile three days that proves that people really want to go back to the theater. All in all, this is a great sign for what's to come.

Adam Robitel's Escape Room: Tournament of Champions held its own in third place with $8.8 million, which isn't too shabby for a lower budget PG-13 horror film. The first movie went on to gross nearly $156 million against a small $9 million budget. Of course they wanted a sequel.

F9 ended up dropping to fourth place while the latest Boss Baby movie followed in the number 5 slot with $4.7 million. With such great numbers across the board, we can see the rest of the summer will continue to revitalize the pre-pandemic waning interest in the theater experience. The movies are back. And we are happy!
