That Would Be Logical: WandaVision's Matt Shakman To Helm Next Star Trek Movie

It appears that the Star Trek universe is heading back to the movies. After years of attempting to get another sequel in the JJ Abrams Kelvin timeline back into space, it looks like Paramount has finally made some forward momentum. It's just been announced that Matt Shakman, who just led WandaVision to 23 Emmy nominations is being given the keys to the cinematic realm of the Star Trek franchise. The director will be helming the next movie in the long running series with no real word on whether or not the most recent movie cast will be coming back to the bridge.

They're currently working from a script by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson with production set to begin next spring. We'll anxiously be waiting by to see if there are any more announcements. At one time it was said that Tarantino would make a Star Trek film but nothing over came to fruition. There was also talk of several other genre directors that never happened.

Obviously we'll update as we hear more. Like most other fans, we'd like to know exactly where the films are headed. But Shakman is definitely a worthy successor that will do something interesting with the project. Word just broke via Deadline about a half hour ago.
