World Building: Neill Blomkamp To Develop Multiplayer Game

Many will remember that Neill Blomkamp came on to the scene trying to direct an adaptation of the video game Halo. Even Peter Jackson came on board to produce the film. Unfortunately, due to a massive potential budget, it quickly ended up in the fiery pits of development hell. Blomkamp let go of the project and pushed ahead, making films like District 9 and Chappie. Now more than a decade later, Neill Blomkamp is taking things into his own hands and is making his own video game.

As revealed in an in-depth IGN interview, Blomkamp has joined the new game developer Gunzilla Games as the Chief Visionary Officer, helping the studio to create their first title, a multiplayer shooter.  Gunzilla was established last year and is full of veterans from studios like EA and Ubisoft. What does Blomkamp do at the up and coming studio? Blomkamp will serve in a creative capacity, bringing in his decade plus of experience and ideas to the design, look, and feel of the games made at the studio.

While there is no word yet on what exactly this game will be, one can assume given Blomkamp's genre pedigree that it will be some sort of science fiction game. Blomkamp sees his new role at Gunzilla as a next step for his career as a storyteller and believes that gaming could be come the dominant art form.

Will this happen? Only time will tell. It will be a while before this untitled game is in our hands. In the meantime, fans hungry for more of Blomkamp's storytelling can check out his latest film, Demonic, which comes out on August 22nd.
