The Saw is Streaming: Netflix Acquires New Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The long running Texas Chainsaw Massacre film series has seen its share of ups and downs. From the classic original to the dwindling returns on sequels to the reboots and the prequel, Leatherface has definitely been run through the creative ringer. A couple years ago it was announced that there would be a new movie that would serve as a direct continuation of the original and would be the new official sequel to Tobe Hooper's classic film. This latest incarnation is produced by Fede Alvarez with David Blue Garcia taking up the directorial chair.

Today it's been announced that Netflix has purchased the rights to the film and will most likely release it to streaming in partnership with Legendary Pictures. The film is also produced by Kim Henkel that worked on the original 1974 movie with Hooper. It falls under the Bad Hombre banner with Exurbia films also attached in a production role.

The new movie "takes place years after the shocking events of the original, in a setting where Leatherface hasn't been seen or heard from since". Basically, Alvarez has said this is old man Leatherface and will use old school practical effects and gags. Fans are surely in for a treat if all of this is true.
