For the second weekend in a row, Denis Villeneuve's version of Dune has done a spectacular international box office. Although we still have several weeks until it hits our domestic box office, it's a great sign that interest is high in the latest adaptation of the classic science fiction story.

This is assisting in the studio's plans for a sequel as the film has already grossed $76.5 million in the overseas markets. Over the weekend, the movie brought in another $26.3 million in 32 other markets outside the U.S. where it doesn't premiere until October 22nd. Box office analysts have long been worried about how well it might fare in the United States and other parts of the world, especially after multiple delays and date changes.

With the current numbers, Dune is already outperforming other major studio pandemic releases like Tenet, Black Widow and Godzilla vs Kong. But it's also running ahead of Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049. These are all great signs that the film may not be the big studio flop that many have predicted.

The film held on to its number one spot in territories like Russia, France, Germany, and Spain and continues to show signs of being a real hit. This is excellent considering his Blade Runner 2049 struggled at the box office in all markets with a mostly overwhelming critical response.
