This Is Sparta: Gavin O'Connor's Warrior TV Show In Development

For the last decade, Gavin O'Connor has been attempting to get a sequel made to his 2011 movie, Warrior. Despite his years of trying to get it done, it's never come to be. Now, the director says that the movie will be turned into a television series. The original movie starred Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton as brothers Tommy and Brendan Conlon who find themselves doing war in the ring. Their father was played by Nick Nolte, who was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Awared. It looks like O'Connor will finally get his way as he says a Warrior television show is officially in development.

However, this new project will not be a direct sequel but will focus on a new batch of characters that will do MMA battle in the fictional Sparta competition. O'Connor has officially signed a deal with Lionsgate to write, produce and direct all the episodes which will eventually be shopped around to streaming outlets.

His new Warrior series will be centered on four new characters: two men and two women. They will be fighting in the updated version of Sparta. O'Connor says that it will still focus on family and what drives the fighters to enter the ring. Three of four character details have been revealed so far. One of the females will be a Muslim lesbian character. Another of the females will be a prisoner in Mountjoy, a prison located in Dublin. The third that's been revealed will be a male fighter who is fighting to get his family out of poverty. The fourth has not been revealed yet.

We estimate this will be a successful project if O'Connor's history speaks for him at all.
