In an otherwise slow news day, it looks like the MPAA has given the upcoming Matrix Resurrections an R rating. The film received this rating based on "violence and some language". This may appease some fans that were worried that the upcoming revisit to the world of The Matrix would be trimmed to make it more viewer accessible or friendly. But that's not so. This will keep it inline with the other three movies in the series and will hopefully keep the level of action based violence at full tilt. While a PG-13 rating would potentially help bring a younger viewing group, this will definitely help make sure that the mature tones stay intact.
The Matrix Resurrections will follow suit of all the other major WB releases this last year. The film will hit HBO Max and cinemas day and date. It will premiere on December 22, 2021 offering both the theatrical option and in home viewing for members of HBO's streaming service. If this is anything like Dune, it will definitely require heading out to the theater to get the full experience of the movie.
This is the fourth entry in the Matrix saga and the first that Lana is directing by herself.
