Yup. Everything gets a prequel, a reboot, a remake, or a sequel. This time we're getting an origin story for Willy Wonka that will feature Dune star Timothee Chalamet in the lead role. He will play the character in the upcoming 2023 film that will tell of the early years of the chocolate maker. As of now it has the highly original title Wonka. It must have taken them years to think of that, eh? Paul King (Paddington) has taken up the directorial duties on the latest incarnation of the character. It's currently set to premiere in theaters in March 2023.
Other actors that will star in the new movie are Keegan Michael-Key, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, and Olivia Colman. There are few details known at this point other than it will be about his early years and may center on his building of the chocolate empire. No one knows if this iteration will have any musical numbers or how much of it will connect to the original film.
