It's really no shock that Marvel's latest cinematic entry debuted at number one. For weeks, it was tracking at roughly $75 million for its opening weekend haul. Some analysts even thought that it might come in as high as $81-85 million with no other major films to compete with for an opening slot. However, even with it taking the number one spot, it under performed against all projections. Their Eternals ended up bringing in $71 million, far below what they had expected from the latest blockbuster release. This isn't really a problem for Disney and their latest Marvel film as it also brought in another $91 million in overseas markets, giving it a cumulative take of $161.7 million for the three day haul. It's estimated that the critical reception may have hampered the movie's performance, but there's no real data to support that.

Dune slipped around 50 percent in its third full weekend of release, only taking in another $7.6 million domestically and $11.1 million overseas. It's not quite the runaway hit that some had hoped for but has crossed the $330 million mark globally. With the sequel already announced for 2023, the gross take it's seen so far definitely proves the movie has been a success for Warner Bros..

The latest James Bond film, No Time To Die is still holding strong at the number three position, making another $6 million in the U.S., but raking in a total tally over $600 million worldwide.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Ron's Gone Wrong rounded out the number three and four positions for the weekend. With overall box office numbers looking strong, it's no doubt that the upcoming Christmas release season will further prove that cinemas survived the certain doom that was spelled out repeatedly by the news media over the course of the pandemic.
