Word just broke via Deadline tonight that MGM is finally getting back to work on their long awaited reboot/remake of the 1989 Patrick Swayze film, Road House. There's been discussion over this for several years but the project seemed to be stuck in development hell and never got off the ground. Well, these are strange times we're living in because the film is officially showing some momentum from the studio. Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to star in the relaunch with Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman considering the project as well. There is no official time frame on release as Jake is currently getting ready to film Guy Ritchie's The Interpreter.

There is currently no real news on whether this will be a straight remake or will be a modern spin on the original film. But it's said that they're currently redrafting a previous script that was to be used when the film was being developed a few years back. It's also not known whether Gyllenhaal will be playing the role of Dalton originally portrayed by Swayze or if they'll create a whole new character.

The original Road House was released in 1989 and has continued to drudge up a massive cult following. It remains one of the number one fan favorites from Swayze's unfortunately short career due to his untimely death. We'll update as we hear more!

We estimate that this will push back Liman's Edge of Tomorrow sequel even further. There have been ongoing discussions about that project for nearly three years now.
