Saladin Ahmed is an Eisner Award-winning comic book author, with a prolific career at Marvel Comics as well as in his own creator-owned independent work. He is best known as the long-time writer of Miles Morales and Ms. Marvel, as well as his critically-acclaimed Black Bolt run which won him the Eisner, and his Hugo-nominated independent series Abbott. Abbott, a supernatural mystery saga with a social conscience, set in 1970s Detroit, also taps into Ahmed's Detroiter roots, as a native of Dearborn, MI.

Movie Sleuth writer Chris Jordan got to interview Saladin Ahmed for his day job as the editor, and sometimes a contributing producer, for Detroit PBS's series One Detroit. Jordan and Ahmed sat down for a lengthy, in-depth conversation at Vault of Midnight Comics in Detroit, where they talked about Ahmed's new Marvel series, The Spine-Tingling Spider-Man, his recently-launched independent comic web site Copper Bottle, and how Ahmed uses his comics to address real-world social issues and create change.

Here is the uncut, 45-minute conversation. You can also find the 9-minute PBS broadcast edit of the interview here.
