Gimme All You Got: Michael Mann and Meg Gardiner To Publish Heat 2 Novel , Teaser Released

Michael Mann is returning to his classic crime drama Heat with a brand new novel that will continue the story from the film through two different time periods. The new book which will be released this August will chronicle the lives of the characters from the film before and after the 1995 cinematic release. Heat 2 is written by Mann himself in partnership with Meg Gardiner. The Harper-Collins/Michael Mann Book imprint looks to extend the story of the criminals and the police from the film in his continued story.

For fans of the film, we understand and appreciate the fact that they're not attempting to make a new movie but will instead get this continued story arc in text form. The original 1995 movie is still held in high regard and continues to drum up new fans. This story will continue the lives of thief Neil McCauley and LAPD detective Vincent Hanna. Heat was the first film to feature DeNiro and Pacino in the lead roles opposing each other.

The movie still remains one of Warner Bros. top rentals 27 years after its cinematic release.

"Its been my intention for a long time to do the further stories of Heat", Mann told Deadline. "There was always a rich history or back story about the events in these people's lives before 1995."

The book will start exactly one day after the concluding moments of the film and will pick up immediately. It will also include flashbacks to the past, giving us much more character development.
