Spider-Man Gets Slashed!: Scream (2022) Wins the Weekend Box Office!

It was undoubtedly going to happen at some time. But this weekend saw Spider-Man: No Way Home lose its running streak at the box office. The horror franchise Scream has officially slashed its way to the top with a great opening take. The film which is the fifth film in the long running franchise will end up with $30.5 million for its opening three days but is expected to top out with $35 million with the holiday weekend taken into account. This is a huge feat for the franchise considering the ongoing pandemic and the recent struggles of so many films.

Scream 4 only saw an $18 million opening weekend back in 2011 and ended its U.S. theatrical run with only $38 million total. This shows that folks are definitely still interested in the horror genre and interest still revolves around the Scream franchise as a whole. The fifth entry also made another $18 million internationally which brings its worldwide take to $53 million after just one weekend in release. We imagine this will definitely spawn another sequel considering these numbers.

It's currently estimated that that Scream (2022) will end up surpassing the original film due to rising costs and inflation.
