It seems that after six years, the cast of the J.J. Abrams reboot will be heading back into space. There have been numerous reports in recent years that Chris Pine and others decided to abandon ship due to pay disputes and issues coming up with a proper script. There was also a lot of talk about a Tarantino Trek project. None of that ever came to fruition. As things seem to go in this industry, it looks as though a Star Trek 4 will see all cast members returning including Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, and Zoe Saldana in their respective roles aboard the Enterprise. The announcement was made during Paramount's Investor Day Presentation by Abrams himself.
"We are thrilled to say that we are hard at work on a new Star Trek film that will be shooting by the end of the year that will be featuring our original cast and some new characters that I think are going to be really fun and exciting", Abrams said.
Abrams will be on board as a producer with Matt Shakman taking over on directorial duties. Obviously it will be strange seeing another film with the departed Anton Yelchin, but we don't imagine they will recast for the project. We'll update as we hear more.
