You can't keep a big shark down, especially in the case of The Meg. The runaway shark hit had a sequel greenlit shortly after it theatrical release but was ultimately delayed due to the pandemic. Well, the second movie in the series is officially underway with Jason Statham and much of the cast (that didn't get eaten) returning for another battle against a massive man eating shark. Today, along with a slew of others, The Meg 2 was given a release time frame. The next movie will be in theaters for Summer 2023. Meg 2: The Trench will officially hit cinemas on August 4th, 2023 with new cast members Sienna Guillory and Skyler Samuels boarding the ship.
The first film went on to gross over $500 million globally, proving that people still love movies about sharks. Jason Statham stars as Jonas Taylor, a fearless ocean lover that goes up against the world's largest sea creatures. The sequel is expected to see him go up against another Megalodon with some fresh faces thrown into the mix.
The movie are based on the Meg book series by Steve Alten. The novels have their very own cult following which eventually spawned the films.
